Currently, town attorney's are appointed by the Westfield Town Council as are the municipal prosecutor and public defender. Westfield currently employs a part-time attorney, Robert Cockren, of the firm SNR Denton and he receives a salary of $63,345. Not bad for a "part-time" employee. To be continued...........
There seems to be no known reason why there should be a separate prosecutor for ordinances and a different one for criminal matters. Why not have a third for regular auto cases and a fourth for drunk driving?
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt there might be occasions when a prosecutor may be in over his head on some technical cases, but that can be taken care of on a case by case basis. It would seem that a strict rule that all of Westfield's ordinance prosecutions must be done by the Town Attorney's office results in higher costs to Westfield.
