Mayor Skibitsky Contradicts Police (PBA) Union Contract

On the night of June 3rd, 2014 at a Westfield Town Council meeting, Mayor Andy Skibitsky declared that Westfield police officers are "volunteers."  Does the police department's PBA union contract allow volunteer police officers?  Mayor Skibitsky has put his foot in his mouth once again..
The Westfield Police Department patrolled the city of Hoboken's "Hoboken Huddle" street fair the week before the NFL's Superbowl 48 and also during Hoboken Lepre-Con celebrating St. Patty's Day.
Watch the following video to hear from the "Horse's Mouth" (Skibitsky) the answer to a question that has lingered for over 3 months.
The fact of the matter is, Skibitsky refuses to tell the taxpayers how much money was wasted by allowing Westfield Police Chief Dave Wayman to send equipment and manpower to street fairs in Hudson County where ex-Westfield Parking Director John Morgan is now employed.
Once again, with his back against the wall, Skibitsky gives a response indicating he must think that the taxpayer is stupid enough to believe, apathetic enough not to care, or just has no clue of the mismanagement and misappropriation of tax dollars.
TFoTM asks: How are the potholes on your street?

  1. I love the body language of the council while you are talking! It is priceless!!! Yet they still get away with this nonsense. AND he gets voted in for a 3rd term.

  2. it is illegal for a police officer in uniform on official duty to volunteer his time for free. if he is hurt he can lose his pension benefits.

    1. It's quite obvious that Mayor Skibitsky chose the wrong word to describe what Westfield police officers were doing in Hoboken because he does not want to publicly admit that it is just another example of mismanagement and the misappropriation of tax dollars. I guess he figured by using the word "volunteers," as he always does to remind the public that he and his fellow town council are volunteers, it might gloss over the wasteful spending. I'm suprised he didn't use his other favorite word "altruistic" to describe the police services donated to Hoboken.

  3. There is no comparison between the mayor/town council and Kasko in terms of intellect and diligence. Kasko has lots while the others have little. I'm scratching my head, trying to understand why Kasko is not sitting in the mayor's chair running this town while the mayor is out drinking with his buddies. Maybe apathetic voters/taxpayers who simply take the train to work, come home and repeat the next day, and otherwise don't really closely follow important local news beyond the brief and generally very positive snippets presented by the Westfield Leader and Patch? I think every town needs a Kasko to hold local politicians accountable to voters/taxpayers. Somehow, those local politicians have managed to maintain the spin that Kasko is "just a disgruntled and disgraced former town employee." But, if you take a moment to listen to him (this video being a great example), you'll see that he is articulate, smart, dedicated and cares so much about Westfield and that he is constantly looking to make this great town even better by cleaning up some of our town's blemishes. Thanks for all you do and keep up the great work!

    1. Thank you for the compliment. As a happily retired former town employee, I admit I am disgruntled..........a disgruntled taxpayer tired of Mayor Skibitsky and a few of his followers on the town council allocating hard earned tax dollars for "pork barrel" spending.

  4. Unable to access story regarding potholes. I drive to work and have seen potholes that have been In
the road for several months so far. Westfield Ave has the same potholes that have been filled many times over the years. How about finding out if there is a street cleaning schedule that is followed, my street has not seen a cleaner since the One last year for leave removal. I see the street cleaner almost every morning cleaning North Ave near Lord and Taylor.

    1. Will follow up on your questions.
Note: grant money was obtained in the amount of $150K for the paving of Westfield Ave. between South Ave and Park St/Dorian Rd intersection. It is unknown when the construction is to begin.

  5. In a state where a governor is under the microscope for possible federal corruption charges along with his former political appointees, it comes as no surprise to me that Mayor Skibitsky would attempt to take the same stance on an issue that cries coverup. He will deny deny deny and demand proof. Skibitsky is a scumbag just like every other politician caught in a scandal.
