  1. Why the hell would she have this event outside in January? And once she saw the forecast why wouldn't she move it inside? Very dangerous for people to be outside in these tempatures. Seems like a bad start already for Shelley!

    1. The event was held inside and outside simultaneously.
For those that did not want to brave the extremely cold weather, a live feed was available to watch the ceremony while staying inside.
Two heated tents, along with refreshments, were provided.
Dressed appropriately, the cold weather wasn’t an issue.
Consider that hundreds of thousands have braved the cold weather to stand outside our nation’s Capitol building to witness inaugurations in January.
Mayor Brindle’s desire to make the event inclusive of everyone is what dictated the exterior location of the event to accommodate the large turnout.

  2. It seems like grandstanding for a small town mayor to have such an event. Most mayors are sworn-in in council chambers or school auditoriums, not heated tents with the event similcasted indoors. Is this the start to elaborate term as mayor?

  3. Based on the number of people that showed interest in attending, council chamber is not big enough to hold that capacity crowd. The event was funded by the Brindle campaign and not tax dollars. The heated tents were for those to seek refuge from cold temperatures and the simulcast is a sign of the times making it easier for many more to watch from home and afar, this historic event. (Westfield’s first female mayor.)
