Westfield Town Council Election: Is This The Best We Can Do

Empty stores downtown, home values dropping, landmark theater closing........that’s what one Westfield town council candidate is highlighting this summer and fall leading into this year’s November municipal elections.

Bodmer Campaign Literature
He started a Facebook group titled “Save the Rialto” claiming to be part of a “team” looking to resurrect a cinema of foregone nostalgia in an ever changing economy that has seen downtown “mom and pop” stores shuttering their doors and being replaced by restaurants, banks, offices, apartments, condos, and large chain stores, the latter able to absorb quarterly losses that family run businesses can’t.
Rich Bodmer, a candidate for town council in the 2nd Ward seems to portray himself as the savior of all Westfield’s problems while offering nothing, no solutions as to how he will solve Westfield’s issues, issues that have been around for over a decade.

Bodmer Campaign Literature
Bodmer has the support of the Westfield Republican Committee made up of some current and past Westfield town council members that were unable to fix the same problems that Bodmer highlights in his campaign literature.
The issues that Mr. Bodmer highlights such as the downtown vacancies, have been ongoing for over the past 12 years.  His running mates LoGrippo and Stokes have been in the same seats he is seeking for the past 8 of those 12 years.  His targeting of these town officials, or any town officials for that matter, without any plans or solutions is the height of hubris.

2nd Ward Candidate Rich Bodmer
His blocking of constituents on his campaign pages, who inquire as to his solutions and proposals, and offer some suggestions predicts the future behavior of this candidate if he ever becomes a town council representative.
Further troubling, is candidate Bodmer's use of a tragic situation to bolster a following for his election.  Candidate Bodmer's creation of the "Save the Rialto" Facebook group has proven to be nothing more than campaign rhetoric starting with subtle attacks on his opposition, false information, no recommendations or plans, and taking the plans of the Mayor as his own.

Westfield Republican Committee
His supporters on that page post hyperbolic negative slurs such as "demonrats."
Blocking, deleting, lying, fabricating....is this what we want as a representative for the Town of Westfield?
The fact of the matter is that Rich Bodmer’s “Save the Rialto” Facebook group is a campaign page in disguise.
Any wannabe politician that tramples free speech, censors comments, and hijacks the ideas of another claiming them to be his own, has no respect for the constituents he seeks to serve.
As a registered Republican I am highly disappointed with the Westfield Republican leadership for choosing a candidate who engages in these actions, to run for elected office as a representative of our town.

  1. Save Rich Bodmer's Control C ButtonWednesday, September 11, 2019

Today Rich posted a story about helping volunteer at ground zero. It was a heartfelt read. However the story has lots of information that simply do not add up. He also copied and pasted it all day long to as of now, 31 local groups including local school pages, community pages and buy sell groups. Type Rich Bodmer and 9/11 in your facebook search box and see the same copied and pasted post all over Union County Facebook pages. Then search Rich's personal page which is public and scroll back to 9/11 going back to 2012. Nothing about this story is ever mentioned. On Sept 11 2016 he posts an Anti Hillary Clinton post but today he is the big hero? Something smells in Singapore folks

    1. Yesterday Bodmer said the guy had an Israeli accent. Today that part of the story is gone.

    2. Where did you see the edit that eliminates the “Israeli accent” comment? Both his “Save the Rialto” and “Vote for Rich Bodmer” Facebook posts still include it.

    3. Oops. Right, still there. Think this guy knows what an Israeli accent sounds like?

  2. Bodmer reposted an anti-immigrant and anti-Semitic tweet by a guy who is flashing a hand sign for "white power". That's just fucking dandy. Meanwhile the Westfield Republican Committee is fully aware of the situation and they aren't doing anything about it!!! They can't claim ignorance. Multiple people have posted about this and Westfield Republicans have been tagged online. So there is no excuse!!! This is beyond disturbing. This is frightening!!! A candidate for town council is posting white supremacist filth with the complete blessing of all the other town Republicans. What the fucking fuck is going on?!!!!!!

    1. The picture Rich Bodmer reposted is of Spooky Jared’s TX flashing a hand gesture that is known to represent “white power.” The letters “W” and “P” are represented in the hand gesture.

    2. What’s disgusting is that the Republican Committee that chose this buffoon is comprised of two sitting Council members, one of which is Mark LoGrippo who is running for re-election. Couple that with 1st ward candidate Rob Benacchio and you would think they’d know better.
What was chairman Neylan thinking when she pulled this rabbit out of a hat?
Didn’t LoGrippo make a racist comment a couple years ago about Westfield turning into Plainfield if Democrats were elected?

  5. This guys 9/11 hero story that he plastered all over the Internet has more holes than Swiss cheese. He’s another Brian Williams!
He wrote nothing about it in the aftermath of the tragedy or on any anniversary since.
    I’m not buying it.

  7. It would seem to be incumbent on the Republican Party to either confirm Mr. Boxer's claims or refuse to do so. Historically, it seems that politicians rely on silence and short memories to get past embarrassing facts. At the moment, the Town hides behind "confidentiality". The Republicans should not remain silent. IF Mr. Boehner was a responder on 9/11, he deserves our praise. If he was not, he deserves our derision and repudiation by the Republicans.
    I hope they will respond.

  9. Interesting that he used the Israeli to highlight how he was Jewish friendly and then called Westfield a “very Jewish” community. Looking for votes no doubt. But any self respecting Jew or human actually, would ever vote for him. All you need to do is look at any of his pages and they are filled with racist tropes.

  10. I know Rich and I like Rich, but I don't think that I could vote for Rich.

  11. Still waiting on some sort of actual political content from Bodmer.. whether it be a candidate statement or some sort of content about why he is running, what he wants to do, and how he will do it.... not sure we will ever get anything other than nonsense stories, rants, and questionable posts on Facebook. Who is allowing this/thinks any of this is normal or a good idea???
