Westfield DPW Equipment Remains Untouched While Playing Fields Suffer

Westfield Department of Public Works aeration attachment sits unused on a pallet at the DPW building while Westfield’s playing fields have become the center of complaints by residents, athletic teams, and town officials.  This piece of equipment was allegedly purchased more than 3 years ago.
The Westfield DPW needs to explain why it hasn’t been used on athletic fields in an attempt to revitalize, rehabilitate, restore, and repair the towns fields at Tamaques Park and other municipal owned land.

With all the overtime worked, and stolen, by Westfield DPW employees, why aren’t Westfield’s playing fields in better shape?  Why have years passed without aerating, seeding, and fertilizing playing fields?

Aeration involves perforating the soil with small holes to allow air, water and nutrients to penetrate the grass roots. This helps the roots grow deeply and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn. The main reason for aerating is to alleviate soil compaction.

  1. I never see the town working to improve the grass fields. And now it looks like they have everything they need to make some improvements- yet they don't. As the complaints grow so will the demand for turf fields because the town will be convinced it's unable to grow grass when in reality they never tried.

  2. This is because they "Supervisor's and Head of DPW" are too busy figuring out how to STEAL OT by watering improperly installed tree's and installing tree's (when OT is for SPECIAL circumstances and emergency's ONLY). Funny how more than half of the tree's installed around town have died due to lack of properly being installed and then Homeowners paid OT to have those tree's watered and some installed on OT monies. So the cost of the tree's and the installation would have been better spent on using a Sub-Contractor who would have done it right the first time and the Town and it's Homeowners wouldn't have to have paid OT and now pay again for RE-Planting!

Yes when employee's do NOT do their job's because they are too busy figuring out how to BEAT the system, EVERYONE loose's!
