Westfield School Board President Exhibits Transparency

At last night's Westfield Board of Education meeting, school board president Ricchard Mattessich responded to questions asked concerning why Westfield school crossing guards are directing traffic at school crossings.
Mayor Andy Skibitsky
After being informed of the fact that some civilian crossing guards at several locations around town are standing in the roadway directing traffic through STOP signs after their job of safely crossing pedestrians is done, Mattessich responded “It’s my understanding they shouldn’t be directing traffic,” he said. “We can certainly talk to the town administrator, whom we know well.”
Mattessich answered a question within minutes of being asked, unlike town officials including Mayor Skibitsky and Westfield Police Chief David Wayman who have not responded to the same questions, at all.

  1. Mr. Mattessich is an example of what a true professional does, answers the questions thrown at him and if he cant answer the question immediately goes to find the answer and a solution....unlike the unprofessional hacks of Wayman and Skibitsky.....

  2. The appointed position of police chief can be consider worthy of a "hack" which Wayman has been exemplary at throughout his career. However, the elected position of mayor would be the person that the "hack" is hacking for. While I understand why the hack (police chief) won't answer the questions due to obvious professional and personal reasons, I don't understand why Mayor Skibitsky, an elected official and whom the chief of police answers to, hasn't.

    1. Just because Skibitsky was elected and not appointed doesnt mean he cant become a hack his track record speak volumes....he is no better then the congress with their 18% approval record

  3. Skibitsky and the police chief know that the crossing guards aren't supposed to be directing traffic. This is a case of hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil. The mayor doesn't want to hear it from the people stuck in traffic jams around the schools so he ignores the dangers of crossing guards directing traffic. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Skibitsky is a politician and he plays the political game like a champ.

  4. Golly Gee, I was under the impression that mayor Skibitsky was a traffic safety engineer. Even after the residents in the immediate vicinity of the Vulture, I mean Hawk light went to the county freeholders and they hired an independent firm, the Penoni Group to evaluate the effectiveness of the lights location and it was deemed the location would be far more effective for drivers and pedestrians if located at the intersection of Central and Clover, the mayor put forth a resolution to ignore the advice of the experts. Apparently our anointed mayor knows more about traffic safety than the police and traffic engineers.

  5. As much as I hate to admit it and disagree with not allowing crossing guards to direct traffic, if the rules and law prohibit it, then until they are changed, Kasko is right. They should be changed. There is no reason for a policeman or woman to be paid to direct traffic - change the law. It isn't rocket science, but I understand the insurance liability concern if someone should get hurt.

At least by doing so, we can force Kasko to work harder at "sticking it to the mayor".

    1. The intent of this site is not to "stick it to the mayor" as you suggest. It's intent, and the appearances at town council meetings are to hold Mayor Skibitsky and the town council accountable for their actions and seek the transparency Mayor Skibitsky preaches. This site was established after Mayor Skibitsky refused to address issues brought to him privately during his office hours. His rebuff is what brought the issues to the public forum.

    2. Mr. Kasko, Now it is you who are lying and being disingenious (again) You most certainly are hell-bent on striking back at all of those who you feel harmed you and caught you. If you want others to be transparent, then you must be too.

    3. If that were the case, TFoTM would have made its debut 3 years earlier.

    4. You could say he is sticking it to those that stuck it to him. Better to stick than to be stuck.

    5. There must be lot of truth to what Greg has to say......because if he were making it up or lying as one post says don't you think this site would be shut down by now and the lawsuits and criminal charges flying....use your head and see the light what Greg has to say is the truth and like the old saying goes the truth is hard to take.......

  6. The town stuck it to Kasko after he outed the police chief for doing illegal backround checks on residents. Gildea and Skibitsky knew exactly what was going on and were forced to protect the town's interests. Why else would they drop all their complaints against him and retire him out in silence? That's what happens to a cop that crosses the thin blue line and breaks the blue code of silence. Only problem is that the corrupt system remains in place. Keep up the good work GK.

    1. Your thin blue line is very thin. That's why the cops who post on this must go. Clean slate the entire police force - leadership too. The whole bunch of you - GO.

    2. I concur with the idea of a clean slate. If it starts at the top of the municipal employee list you can start with Jim "I never told a lie I didn't believe myself" Gildea. This site gives us cops an avenue to vent without the repercussions of of crossing the thin blue line and being targeted. Just because the corrupt don't like it doesn't make it wrong. There are many of us in the police department that go with the flow just to stay out of the way of certain vengeful people including some in charge.

    3. That's right, silence the cops that post here and don't let them air the department's dirty laundry. Typical of the regime mentality fostered by Tracy and continued by Wayman.

    5. Go back to using cops to direct traffic, but make sure we relocate the schools near Vickis Diner, so when they are almost done with their shift, cops can have tehir donuts and coffee. Keep the kids away from the side streets - they make too much noise and they will wake the bears sleeping in their squad cars.

    1. Bring back Scutti. At least he kept Wayman from being promoted past sergeant. Once Tracy made chief, the patronage promotions began and that's why the department is in disarray.

    2. How true that statement is....remember crying and whining in the halls how Scutti held back his career....guess AJ saw Dave for what he is.....a egotistical narcissistic bully...

  9. Are the crossing guards hired to cross the children, the adults, or both?
