Police Pizza Pick-Up

Should town employees be allowed to use taxpayer funded "take home" vehicles for personal use to run errands with a family member in tow?  What are the ramifications should the employee be involved in an accident?  Should the employee pay a "per diem" fee for the use of a free vehicle, gas, insurance, and repairs?
Westfield Police Captain Scott Rodger utilizes his town owned Dodge Durango to make a pizza pickup at Cosimo's on E. Broad St.
Where should the the line be drawn regarding the personal use of town owned vehicles being used for personal errands?
Should this "perk" be taxed with a user fee?

  1. Take away all take home vehicles...no one needs one....its a perk that is expensive and no longer needed.....

  2. This picture suggests the employee is entirely off duty... casual clothes (not police uniform) and family member (wife?) about to get in car as well. The picture suggests this to be completely off duty- possibly a day off from work altogether. I have a problem with that. As for "take home" vehicles in general- I didn't know this was taking place. I don't understand why Westfield is giving out "take home" vehicles??? Why aren't they driving their own cars to the police station and then getting in police cars then driving their own cars home??

  8. As long as he pays taxes on his personal use of a company car as compensation there is not much we can do about it.
