Town Employee's Health At Risk, Contamination In The Workplace

The following video contains images of the ventilation system inside of the Westfield Municipal Building.

The origin of the mold infestation can be traced back to the Juvenile Detective Bureau Conference Room.

The door to the contaminated room was closed several years ago after the mold was reported to town officials.

Is this how the Town of Westfield remediates the problem?
Close the door to the problem?

Typical

MISMANAGEMENT

What will it cost the taxpayers of Westfield?

  1. Who is responsible for this? Does this mean anyone with a respiratory ailment will have a case against the town? When does this stop?

  2. This is a serious health issue not only for the people who work there but the general public as well. What is the time line here? 6 months? Longer?

I'm not a lawyer but I know the owner of the property is under a legal obligation to mitigate the problem and contain damages. Closing the door to a problem is a pretty stupid decision. Especially if you consider remediation early on would be the easiest solution.

  3. Guess Davy is too busy building his new office to worry about it. Johnny is too busy with his extra curricula activies to worry about it too.

  4. Did they clean up the mold when it was first reported? If it gets into the HVAC system it creates a bigger problem. It is extremely expensive to rid a ventilation system of mold once the mold has embedded itself in the system.

  5. One of the side effects to breathing mold is a person can become forgetful as in memory loss. That would explain why Captain Wayman always answers "I can't recall".

It's pretty obvious the same person is making most of the commetns on this post (and all the other ones).

  7. Fact: Black mold was reported to Gildea,Wayman,Parizeau and Auchter over 5 years ago and to this day it remains status quo. Gildea had an outside contractor come in to put up new drywall that had been destroyed by the Black Mold, the workers would not complete the new wall over the mold stating the dangerous condition in the room. THE DOOR HAS BEEN CLOSED SINCE WITH NO FURTHER WORK BEING DONE.

  9. As long a someone is exposing this- i don't care how many people comment. Closing the door on a problem is just plain stupid.

  11. The Fact of The Matter has researched how a public employee can submit a complaint to P.E.O.S.H.A. A complaint will remain confidential however, a name and telephone number must be submitted with a complaint. If an employee is reluctant to file a complaint, his/her union representative can file the complaint on behalf of the employee. This information was obtained by calling 609-984-1863.
