Administrative Professional's Day: April 27, 2011
Administrative Professional's Week is celebrated:: April 24-30, 2011 National Professional Secretaries Week and National Secretary's Day was created in 1952 through the work of Harry F. Klemfuss of Young and Rubicam. Klemfuss recognized the importance and value of the position to a company or business. His goal was to encourage more women to become secretaries. Using his skill and experience in public relations, Klemfuss, promoted the values and importance of the job of secretaries. In doing so, he also created the holiday in recognition of the importance of secretaries.
Today, the title is changing and evolving. But, the recognition is equally important. There are two new terms in use today. They are "Administrative Professionals" and "Executive Admins". The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities to different companies. Both are broader terms, that encompass more positions than the original "Secretary" role.
The name change recognizes and acknowledges that the role has changed significantly since 1952, and for the better at that. And in Harry Klemfuss' day, these postions were the realm of women. Today, you find some males in these positions.
The most common ways of recognizing your Administrative Professional(s) today are:
- Flowers
- Cards, often with shopping gift certificates
- Take them to lunch
- Candies
- Assorted Gift Baskets
- Gold Detective Badge
While manpower in the Westfield Police Department is at an all-time low, down a minimum of 7 police officers, the ranks of the secretarial staff have been fortified with the continued employment of Officer Nicole Stivale as the Town of Westfield's first $100K secretary. After being removed from patrol years ago, while on "light duty," Officer Stivale never returned to the job the taxpayer's of Westfield have been paying her to do. As an academy trained police officer, she remains pushing papers for the administration with weekends and holidays off. Membership has it's privileges. So the next time a burglary occurs, or overtime is paid out to hire an officer to cover a shift, think of Officer Stivale and the contribution she is making to the taxpayer as a town employee. Priceless.

ReplyDeleteSince the inception (Dave that means the start of ) this website Nicole's duties have been cute back. She no longer has to push the delete buttons on NJ dot com when someone put up a post that exposed her bosses. Amazing at a time when the town wants to save money they will cut a full time secretary to part time then hire back a retired officer part time in the same office. Now you have two part time employees working more hours then one full time employee. Wait I forgot Chris has to go out for coffee papers and dry cleaning. Good thing the department got that new van easier for him to load and unload.
ReplyDeleteThe ATV the department needs or John and Dave need for ice fishing. They can pack up the trailer hook it up to the pick up and enjoy a long weekend. They have cell phones if we need them. Rowe can wash it when they get back
ReplyDeleteWe don't need more cops on the street. We need more meter maids downtown. The persistent parking offenders are running wild. How can I get my Starbucks if those spots are full. I grew up in Westfield and I should be treated special.

ReplyDeleteNow now be nice...... Of course WE ARE ALL SPECIAL..... But if you live in WESTFIELD,,,,, your REALLY special! This town has become a joke..... My family has roots here over 100 years and i thought it was the right thing to do when i moved in..... WOW what a mistake! I was forced to stay because my child had some special needs nad the district handles special need kids very well but everything else is a joke..... Look at what the BOE just did.... Name a baseball field after a coach who is HATED.... lack of guidance! God forbid they ask for guidance.... none of them have been in the town for more then 10 years! Does anyone know who spent there on money to build the field.... yea thats right a resident spent $40,000 of his own money to build that field..... His name is not on the field..... a coach who was hated has his name on the field! The town is and has become an Albatross

ReplyDeleteObviously, the coach thing has nothing to do with the intent of this post. Why it is here, I have no idea. The uninformed individual who claims his family has roots over 100 years in this town, hasn't got his facts straight. First, if the baseball field of which he is referring to is the varsity field behind Edison Int. School, the BOE is not considering naming it after a coach who is "HATED", in fact, it is that coach's deceased father who the BOE is CONSIDERING naming the field after. A man who spent more than fifty years of his life supporting and building the youth sports leagues that many of ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren are benefitting from today. Second, since when has it become a crime for someone to DONATE money for a cause. That's $40,000 that aren't coming from the taxpayer.
If this is what makes this town a joke, then maybe he should jump on the next Albatross out of town.
why not name the field after the benefactor who donated the $40,000, or at least include his / her name on the field?
ReplyDeleteOh my..... a voice of reason above. Thank you kind resident, you would think that would be the correct thing to do. BTW i am a women, i was referred to above as "he" should jump on the next Albatross out of town. Nothing in this town is appreciated that is done out of the kindness of someone's heart.... But plenty is done for a reason, more specifically for personal gain!
