Another Accident: Cyclist Struck at North Ave & Tuttle Pkway

We just can't make this up Mayor.

Tonight at approximately 6:02 pm, a cyclist was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing North Ave at the intersection of Tuttle Pkwy, the same intersection where a woman was struck and killed two weeks ago.  The same intersection that was recommended for lighting improvements 6 years ago.

Once again, the Town's expert traffic safety engineer recommended in 2005 that the lighting be upgraded at this intersection.  This intersection, along with the intersection of Central Ave. & Clover St., were both identified as traffic and pedestrian "Hot Spots" in a 2005 report issued by Westfield's traffic safety consulting engineer Gordon Meth.

Mayor Skibitsky.........................What has been done to address the recommendations made by your own "expert"?

TFoTM is not accusing the Mayor or any Town Council member of directly causing these tragic accidents but we will suggest that if Town officials had followed the recommendations of their own experts, it is quite possible these accidents could have been avoided.  Why spend thousands of taxpayer dollars in consulting fees when you don't follow the recommendations of the consultant?
Answer the questions Mayor and stop indirectly blaming motorists and pedestrians by suggesting each has to be more careful.  How about upgrading the lighting at North & Tuttle and finally addressing the intersection of Central & Clover before another tragedy occurs.  Will your response be the same one you gave when asked about burned out homes in town......."That's what insurance is for."

Last time we checked, insurance doesn't replace a human life.

  1. I run that route- but not at night because it's too dark and the traffic to much. You don't need an engineer, you just need comon sense! Could someone from the Town just go there at night and look with your own eye for christ sake!

    1. Ward 1 Councilman Sam Della Fera admitted at last weeks Town Council meeting that he had not once used the pedestrian activated crossing on Central Ave since it was installed in April of 2010 but yet will tell you he believes it is in the safest location. Don't hold your breath waiting for him to go out to North and Tuttle to personally witness, with his own eyes, anything.

  2. 2 accidents in the same night at 2 controversial intersections? I'm glad no one was hurt this time and I hope the mayor takes his head out of his ass before someone else dies in either of these locations. Add lights and put the crosswalk AT THE INTERSECTION. Failure to do so will result in lawsuits beyond belief. Trust me, as a lawyer, I might file them myself.

  5. Any follow-up about the fatal accident at North and Tuttle two weeks ago? How is the second victim fairing? I couldn't find anything in yesterday's (Feb 9th) Leader about it.

  7. Hey how about this....let the mayor and council cross there at night after a meeting instead of sitting in a bar with Wayman and Parizeau.....

  8. Why didn't the town follow the recommendations of its traffic safety engineer? What is going on here. If the mayor ignores a report he should be held accountable.

  9. The mayor is a punk and a coward, Maria C. has proven that time and time again! The mayor is shameless, so you can't shame him into doing anything. What he did to Adina E. was a horrible thing to do. He never would have done that to a member of his family. Just remember mayor you reap what you sew and rest assured that your sin will find you out! And oh by the way mayor you will move that light.
