Police Chief Involved In Traffic Accident

Newly appointed Westfield Police Chief David Wayman was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Lambertsmill Rd. yesterday afternoon while driving in a town owned vehicle.  The Chevy Tahoe sustained damage as a result of the accident.
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and some might call it karma.   Former Police Chief Barney Tracy's protege' was involved in the afternoon accident within hours of The Fact of The Matter posting a story about town owned vehicles purchased and intended for police department use.  The story posted yesterday chronicled an accident involving  former police chief Bernard Tracy and a town owned vehicle that had been totalled in the early morning hours of New Year's Eve 2004.  See previous story below.
After yesterday's accident, the police chief's vehicle was dropped off at Britton Auto Body on Springfield Ave.  for repairs to the vehicle's rear view mirror(s) and was returned to police headquarters sometime during the evening hours before any scrutiny could take hold..
The Chevy Tahoe driven by Chief Wayman was purchased with money donated through charitable contributions and used by the police department's D.A.R.E. program until police department officials eliminated the educational program several years ago.  Wayman, a police captain at the time, was driving a town owned 5-series BMW sedan until he obtained the keys to the Tahoe which had to be "de-dared" of all it's D.A.R.E. logos and gull-wing doors.  See related story here: http://07090.blogspot.com/2011/04/mtvs-got-pimp-my-ride-wpds-got-de-pimp.html
Westfield Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau Sergeant Jason McErlean responded to the scene to process the necessary paperwork and reports.  Police department officials stated that the accident report was not available to the public as of 3:45 pm today and won't be available until it is processed through the police department's records bureau.

In the past, Westfield police officers have been held accountable, both monetarily and by way of discipline, for damage sustained to departmental or town owned property if it is determined that the officer's negligence contributed to the damage.

Just curious in this day and age there is no such thing as a fender bender.....the slightest damage will exceed $500.....with that being said I would like to know if the accident was reportable or non-reportable.......

  6. If Dave isnt held accountable for the wreck if he is at fault.....then the next officer who wrecks should get the same treatment...if not fight like hell.......

  7. Why does he need to have a tahoe? Isn't there money problems in town.. drastic manpower cuts? How much it costs plus fuel? Wow. Or maybe someone can let me know... Maybe. It's for the westfield special operations unit? Just seems exessive.

  8. The rules and regulations of WPD and past practice call for a written notice be placed in your discipline/personnel file for any motor vehicle accident occuring on duty, but that wont happen, because its Davey. This brings a question to mind, WHY IS DAVE WAYMANS PERSONNEL FILE VACATED OF ALL HIS NEGATIVE DISCIPLINE HISTORY OVER THE LAST TWENTY SOME YEARS? According to the Guidelines of the AG Office,SERIOUS negative discipline cannot be removed from your file, yet Daveys file shows none of his history, so isnt that a crime, I would think Official Misconduct or at minimum tampering with official records.

  10. Wayman uses his police issued Tahoe to go to the gym and bars while off duty more than he ever has responding to emergency calls while off duty. He lives in Westfield, enabling him to pick up his trruck on the way to what very few emergencies a Chief needs to respond to.
