Westfield's $250,000 MSOC Unveiled at Street Fair

Interior of MSOC
While potholes around town go unfilled and school children cross some streets without crossing guards that once provided safety and supervision, the Westfield Police Department unveiled the Town Council's most recent purchase that was approved through a special resolution weeks ago.  The $250,000 trailer was parked on E. Broad St yesterday during the annual Spring Fling street fair.
Hey Westfielders, at least the MSOC (Mobile Strategic Operations Command/Center) will allow Westfield residents to charge mobile phones during power outages.
The newest additions to the police department' fleet and not shown in photos: Ford F350 pickup with mobile generator and CSI response vehicle.
The MSOC, deemed a luxury by a retired police chief from a neighboring town, is a drain on the taxpayer at a time when purchases need to be prioritized.  The Union County Police Department located on North Ave. in Westfield has two Mobile Command Centers available to police departments upon request.  Union County Police Headquarters also provides a county dispatch center in the event a municipality needs a backup to it's own communications center.  During campaigning for re-election, Councilman Frank Arena stated, "We need to get more bang for our buck" when describing the amount of money Westfield pays in county tax dollars each year.
Why not rely on the County to provide the services that the Westfield Town Council claims this $250,000 purchase will provide?  Don't forget the Polaris ATV that was purchased with the MSOC coming to a park near you.
Next up: An RRMU (rescue response marine unit) for immediate response and rescue on all Westfield waterways.

  1. I thought this was a purchase for the police, fire, and rescue squad? Why does it say Westfield Police on the side? I guess the town council made it out to be more than what it is to justify buying it. Reid and Dan must be sulking that they don't get to play with Wayman's new toy.

  2. At a cost of $250,000 the got Formica table tops and not granite? That must be one expensive fire extinguisher hanging in the picture.

    1. The purchase included a Polaris ATV not shown. The picture of the interior shows a ramp that looks like a ladder (to the right) possibly used for the loading and unloading of the ATV. The manufacturer of the MSOC stated that the ATV is a "launch vehicle" that allows a "perimeter of rescue." Bob Buckner (manufacturer's representative) arrived in Westfield last week and is currently training WPD personnel on how to utilize the MSOC.

  4. Such a waste of taxpayer money. Council should be ashamed of themselves.

  6. training who..????....which personnel are being trained, and at what cost???? are only a "chosen few" being trained why not train all of patrol, this way should something happen no one has to be paid overtime for coming in.

  7. I noticed that on the door behind Lt. Battiloro is a crudely made sign, guess a quarter of a million doesnt buy much these days, and that sign state no photographs video or other type of recording inside the trailer, what are they afraid of showing the public, just how little their tax money gets??????

    1. The sign posted on the door states, "NO PHOTOGRAPHS, VIDEOS, OR RECORDINGS OF ANY KIND ARE PERMITTED INSIDE THE MOBILE-SPECIAL OPERATIONS CENTER."
TFoTM complied and left all our photos, videos, and recordings outside of the mobile-special operations center. Perhaps the words "OF THE" should have preceded the word "INSIDE" followed by the word "OF" after "INSIDE.

TFoTM is clearly leaps and bounds ahead of the average person in terms of intellect, paying attention to details, and even being kind of funny in the process. WPD management clearly discarded from among their best although they want citizens to think they have done otherwise.

    3. TFoTM appreciates the compliment.

With all due respect, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to decipher the request made on the sign posted on the door of the MSOC. However, understanding Chief David Wayman's feverish attempts to "quash" this site and the information it dispenses, TFoTM is merely pointing out that our photo of the inside of the MSOC was taken while abiding by the request posted on the entry door.

The photo of the inside of the MSOC was not taken by any past, present, and if I have any say as a parent, future employee of the Westfield Police Department.

    4. That's why Wayman isn't a rocket scientist. He has trouble igniting a bottle rocket on the 4th of July.

  8. They are at St. Helen's today--training on this thing. Hard to believe this is Westfield. Salesman probably cannot believe he pulled this off.

  9. the chief is a joke. is he still going to the trolley with skibitsky and gildea. thats why the police department can do whatever they want and the fire department cant

  10. You are missing the point here....I dont care who took the photos or posted them, the Fact of the Matter is there is a sign like that posted on the door, why, what are they hiding, the fact that a quarter of million dollars was spent on something as cheesy as a trailer pickup and a quad....doesnt WPD have a pick up truck that pulls the swat trailer around why cant they save money and use what they have....my comments were not meant to slam here it was a slap in the face of that idiot Wayman
