Pundit Predicted Police Promotion

Tuesday evening's town council meeting featured the promotion of police officers to the ranks of sergeant, lieutenant, and captain.
Mayor Skibitsky took the opportunity to stand united with the police department as Chief David Wayman made the first of what could be many promotions during what is expected to be an extended tenure as Westfield's police chief given his age in comparison to the Police & Fire Retirement System's mandatory retirement age of 65.   Wayman took the opportunity to promote Westfield PD's first female sergeant Lauren Maloney.
Another promotion was Lieutenant Chris Battiloro to the rank of Captain.  Since there is no formal testing for the rank of captain, a rank typically held by the police chief's closest confidant, Battiloro had been TFoTM's "odds on" favorite to be selected.   See related story by clicking on the following Internet link:  http://www.07090.blogspot.com/2013/04/tfotm-handicaps-westfield-police.html

Skibitsky, long regarded as an adversary by many within the police department during contract negotiations, wasted no time appearing to align himself with the department's rank and file that were in attendance at last night's ceremony.

A fundraiser recently held at the Westfield home of New Jersey Assemblyman Jon Bramnick, that allegedly raised funds for the Westfield Policeman's Benevolent Association, might suggest local politicians are aligning themselves with local law enforcement in anticipation of this year's election season.  A picture of Westfield PBA President Frank Moya posing with local politicians was featured recently on the second page of a local newspaper.

Donated dollars don't come without a price tag, especially when tied to politicians.  Only time will tell if an endorsement of a candidate is in Westfield PBA's near future.  It's never been done before.

  3. Is it true that Walsh set up Wayman's Internet network at home? Anyone know any plumbing, electrical? The barter system is alive and well in Wayman's world.

    1. For the first time in recent memory, the promotions were made according to the final rankings of the testing process.

  6. Now all Chris needs to do is sit and wait for Wayman to jackpot. It's not a question of will he jackpot, but a question of when.

  7. you forgot one thing......Rodgers is the senior captain....they may just go back to the senior captain getting the corner office

  8. Rodgers made captain because he cried to Parizeau that if he wasn't promoted, he'd leave. Parizeau/Wayman had no choice but to promote him since he mastered the department's computer system. Same way Parizeau climbed the ranks. Rodgers has no supervisory history in patrol except to give orders to a keyboard and computer screen.

  11. Not sure where this belongs in this forum. Why did the New Jersey State Police Official Corruption Unit recently contact the Westfield Police Department and Detective Chambliss seeking records of an investigation that was conducted in 2011 and 2012 ? Rumor has it this "Investigation" led to the Termination of the Union County Prosecutor and involves Westfield - Scotch Plains - Fanwood Officials and employees of the Union County Prosecutors Office.

A Superior Court Judge has ordered the Westfield Police to turn over all of the records of the Investigation to a Special Court Appointed Administrator who is a former Prosecutor.

Everyone is mum on this. If you have any information please post.

  13. Stop the MadnessTuesday, August 20, 2013

After reading this blog for a while, I figured I would post this here because its closer to the top and if human plays true people wont go past the latest postings. The other day I was passing by Police Headquarters and observed the following. Two officers, I believe one was a Sargent, were washing what appeared to be an ATV of some sort. Unfortunately I could not snap a picture of it with my cell phone at the time nor could I swing back to take a picture, some of us work for a living. When I got home I decided to do some research on just how much that ATV wash cost me (tax dollars hard at work). I use a web site called http://statetroopersalary.com/, I am not sure how valid or accurate the web site is but it still a starting point. If anyone has the true numbers or knows where I can go to get them I would like to know the actual cost of the wash. According to the web site the average hourly salary of a Westfield officer is $46 and hour. So lets say that it took at least two hours to get the ATV set up, get organized (soap and H2O) wash, and dry. Two officers, one with rank, thats $92 per hour. Now two hours at $92 is $118 for a wash and thats without a tip. If this is how a supervisor and an officer spend their day this is not only a waste of money it is also a failure to supervise. I guess the department head doesnt believe in saving money, a simple solution would be someone on community service wash the thing, at a cost of nothing. Another solution would be supporting the community by utilizing a local hand car wash business in town for far less and reaching into their own pocket. I hope that someone else saw this and can prove this story so people dont think I am making this up.

    1. Basic math would calculate the two hour wash to cost $184. You underestimated the expenditure.
