To avoid the scrutiny of the watchful eye, the vehicle has no identifiable police markings.
This town owned, taxpayer funded, municipally insured and maintained vehicle, is just another unnecessary acquisition through LESO.
Time will tell if he plans to outfit the pickup truck with a plow to clear his personal driveway.
Participating in the 1033 Program
The Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) is accepting applications to participate in the 1033 Program. To date, thousands of Federal, Tribal, State, and Local Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) have participated.
As an active member, the LEAs receive a Department of Defense Activity Address Code (DODAAC), which allows LESO to track issued property. Additionally, LEAs are granted access to web-based applications which will allow them to search for and request equipment. Requests for excess DOD property by State LEAs must be approved by the State Coordinator as well as the LESO.
Once property is received on record, the LEA must ensure its accountability and responsibility of it. If the LEA desires to Transfer, Turn-In, or Dispose of the property, they must have LESO approval.

DeleteSounds like sour grapes...Whether its a perk of the job title or "justified" use of Town property - so what? I see the Detectives' Town Owned Unmarked Police Vehicles doing non-police business,(dropping kids off various places around town) and even at a local shopping mall. (I know the argument that they are always on-call will be made...) but I'm pretty sure there was no side-job for that Westfield officer at Bridgewater Commons Mall - but there he and his Town owned vehicle was, parked illegally - but no ticket and didnt get towed! Wonder why? The Police in this town have always played the part of big fish in a very small puddle...with little to no repercussions. So in the end - who cares. It will never change.

ReplyDeleteDid you ever stop to think that perhaps the Westfield officer at Bridgewater Commons Mall was investigating something on behalf of his own Police Department?
The acquisition of military surplus vehicles for potential private use (plowing his driveway) is unacceptable.
If that’s the case, the taxpayers of Westfield will be waiting for their driveways to be plowed by town employees.
I wholeheartedly agree that wasteful spending or questionable acquisition of surplus assets is not OK. My point is that this abuse of power and influence has been happening in WPD forever - or at least the last 42 years since I've been here. It will not change - we are all aware of it -theres nothing we can do to stop it. No sooner does 1 regime exit that the next one rises from the flames. They are all in bed (sometimes literally) together and yet its business as usual. BTW - that Mall Cop was shopping...I watched him purchasing items at one of the stores there.

DeleteIt’s embarassing when the “leader” can’t talk for more than 5 minutes without repeating himself 3 times, mumble, stutter and or break into a nervous sweat.
But if he does go, nothing will change. Maybe less scare tactics or temper tantrums. But the fact that favoritism, blowjobbers and nepotism will remain.
Last night, (Sat) during the snow storm a white pick-up came screaming through South and Central with lights and siren. I wondered what the hell is that? 3 blocks away 2 patrol vehicles were sitting idle outside a house. My point, no idea where this driver was rushing to or who they were in an otherwise normal looking pick-up. Please tell me this isn't the chief of police prancing around town playing storm trooper!
